Custom footprints are already supported so you can already go ahead and use whatever footprint list you want.

The issue with a lot of footprints that people suggest is that they are for non English searches which would not be preferable to a lot of users, have very few targets returned or for non supported platforms.

I look into footprints now and again and always do so when adding new platforms. But in the meantime there is nothing stopping anyone from using their own list of footprints if they want to.
