How big can the database get?

Postby hackersmovie » Sun Apr 14, 2013 8:35 pm

I've recently had my VPS's upgraded to run SSD's (So worth it!) but, they were small SSD's. I've noticed that the drive space is slowly being taken up so the question is:

How big can the database file get and is there some way to limit it's size?

About the biggest I have seen was around 1.5Gb but they could easily top this if it is left to run non-stop for months on end. You can occasionally go into the Settings=>More tab and click the "Remove Previous Posts" button. This will remove any previous posts that were not successful. This process can take some time if the CPU is slow and the database is bigger than 500MB or so but there will be a message posted to the log when it has finished. It is important you do not force close NHSEO while this is occurring as there are lots of database requests happening.

This first step should actually help to really speed up searching as there are less pages to be checked against when some targets have been searched for.

Once the above process has finished you can then reclaim this extra space by clicking on the "Clear Unused DB Space", this won't speed anything up but will reclaim the empty space from the DB created by step 1. Again this process can take some time and it is important it is left to finish before force closing NHSEO. When this process has ended, again, there will be a message posted to the log.
