what is the optimal frequency to rerun the software? weekly, monthly? thanks

There is no optimal amount, it is just for use in pinging your webpages. You would only really be wanting to ping your own websites if the content was updated.

You can also use it for pinging your linking pages (pages that have a link back to your websites), this is really the main point of the tool.
