Database Maintenance Problem?

Postby RizlaUK » Sun Oct 20, 2013 8:42 am

Hi Jim
NHSEO has been running on my laptop for 2yrs none stop. Just read in one of the hints & tips that this can slow down performance if the database is not maintained.
So I hit the button and off it went... Nothing in any logs but my wory is that the hard drive is still working away some 2.5 days later.

Is this normal? and how long should it take? I don't want to re-boot incase it knackers the database.

There should be a post to the log less than a couple of seconds after hitting the maintenance button to say that it has started and then one every time a new part of the maintenance starts and finishes. Is the button greyed out now? If not try hitting it again, a dialog box should pop up prompting whether you want to proceed or not. If the button is not greyed out then the process was not started possibly due to hitting no in the dialog box prompt.

After a re-boot I have just gone back to it.
Pressed the button and a dialogue box appears.... click OK and button greys out and drive is running.
No log appears and looking in the main log nothing is happening there.
How long should I leave it running?

If nothing appears in the log then it may not have started, the first thing that happens in the DB maintenance job is to post in the log that it is starting. Can you see in your "My Documents\No Hands SEO" folder a DATABASE.db3-journal file? It should be changing size relatively regularly.

To be honest I haven't really seen any issues with the maintenance before as it is just a few simple SQL queries, they can take a while to finish on slower machines but there should be little to go wrong with it. If you have a journal file then it is working if not then it probably hasn't started.

If you would like you could zip/rar your DATABASE.db3 file and upload to a host (mediafire.com is free) and I will do the maintenance for you and then upload it for you. If you want to go this route make sure to send the link via PM or email rather than post it here.

That means it isn't starting for some reason. I added a little error message to the latest version (2.17.6.0) so that in the case of it failing due to some SQLite error it would post an error message to the log, is it even getting to that point?

If not it may be that you need to zip or rar the database and send the link over to me as I really can't see any reason other than the DB thread not running for this not to work, if your DB thread wasn't running you wouldn't be able to do any searching or posting or update your profiles/activate/deactivate them etc.

Just re-started and tried again. I have the msg "Database thread started" in the bottom of the window. Is this correct? Nothing in the main log window though.
